I am a UI/UX designer based in Metro Atlanta with 9+ years of experience in UX.
Prior to working in user experience, my background was in web design dating back to the late-1990s. I consider myself fortunate to have experienced the early days of the Internet, as the trends of both design and human interaction online have been truly fascinating to observe over the last 20+ years.
I am a person who often thinks about how things work and why people and things are the way that they are. That sense of curiosity leads me to ask questions and seek an understanding of the world around me. In many ways, the field of user experience is a subset of the human experience, so as a designer, my goal is to optimize the experience of human-computer interaction.
In my time as a UI/UX designer, I have had exposure to the full spectrum of user experience. While I am undoubtedly stronger in some areas than others, I also welcome opportunities for growth in learning new skills and experiences where I have previously had less exposure.
Competitive market research, usability analysis, user interviews, focus group user testing, gathering business requirements
Whiteboard sketching, brainstorming, product owner/developer collaboration
Wireframing, hi-fi prototyping, creative visual design, asset design
Writing HTML/CSS, assisting with code integration
Working with a team and an organization that understands, values, and invests in user experience is very important to me.
Too often it seems that organizations don’t have a complete understanding of what user experience is. There’s more to it than designing a high-fidelity mockup because the business needs someone proficient with design software. A user-centered mindset seeks to ensure that your end users, the people who drive your revenue, have a voice and the power to help your organization make a better product that focuses on their needs.
I also welcome the opportunity to be a part of a highly collaborative and multi-disciplinary team where I can be an advocate for user experience. I have worked with many fantastic project managers, product owners, developers, and end users over the years. The common link in the successful experiences I've had with all of those groups has been effective communication and collaboration.
As a UI/UX designer, I understand that people rely on me to produce intelligent solutions to design issues, but I also understand that great ideas come from many different minds and places. I seek to get others involved and interested in the ideation process. I don’t pretend to have all the answers and I look forward to working with both end users and team members who can challenge me with different ways of thinking and unique approaches to solving problems.
